"Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward,every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar”, every “supreme leader”, every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. 
 
저 작은 점을 다시 보라. 저 곳에 모든 것이 있다. 저 것이 우리의 고향이다. 저 것이 우리이다.
이 곳에서 당신이 사랑하는 모든 이들, 당신이 알고 있는 모든 사람들, 당신이 들어 봤을 모든 사람들, 예전에 있었던 모든 사람들이 그들의 삶을 살았다.


우리의 모든 즐거움과 고통, 확신에 찬 수많은 종교, 이데올로기들, 그리고 경제 정책들, 모든 사냥꾼과 약탈자, 모든 영웅과 겁쟁이, 문명의 모든 창조자와 파괴자, 모든 왕과 농부, 사랑에 모든 빠진 젊은 연인들, 모든 아버지와 어머니들, 희망에 찬 아이들, 발명가와 탐험가, 모든 도덕의 스승들, 모든 타락한 정치인들, 모든 "슈퍼스타", 모든 "최고 지도자", 인간 역사의 모든 성인과 죄인들이 여기 태양의 빛 속에 부유하는 먼지 티끌 위에서 살았던 것이다.
 

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.
Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner.
How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark.
In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

지구는 우주라는 광활한 공간에 있는 너무나도 작은 무대이다.
승리와 영광이란 이름 아래, 이 작은 점의 극히 일부를 단지 잠깐동안 차지하려고 했던 역사 속의 수많은 장군과 황제가 흐르게한 피의 강들을 생각해 보라.
이 작은 픽셀의 한 모서리에 살던 사람들이, 거의 구분할 수 없는 다른 모서리에 살던 사람들에게 보여주었던 끝없는 잔혹함을 생각해 보라.


우리의 가식들, 우리 안에 존재하는 자만, 우리가 세상의 어떤 위치를 차지했다고 여기는 망상은 이 작고 희미한 빛에 의해 의심받을 수 밖에 없다.


우리가 사는 행성은 우주의 거대한 어둠에 둘러쌓인 외로운 점 하나일 뿐이다.
이 광대함을 생각해볼 때, 우리는 그저 미미한 존재이기 때문에, 우리 자신으로부터 우리를 구원해줄 어느 외부의 도움을 받을 수 있을 가능성은 희박하다.

Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known." 
 
우리가 살고 있는 이 지구는, 우리가 아는한 생명의 안식처가 되는 유일한 세계다.
적어도 가까운 미래까지는 우리 인류가 이주할 수 있는 곳이 다른 어디에도 없다.
좋든 싫든 지금으로선 지구만이 우리가 존재할 수 있는 곳이다.
천문학이 인간을 겸손하게하고 인격을 성장시킨다고들 말한다.
인간의 어리석은 자만을 우리의 작디 작은 세계를 머나먼 곳에서 찍은 이 이미지보다 잘 표현하는 것은 없을 것이다.
나에게 있어, 이 사진은 우리가 서로에게 더 친절하게 대해야 하고, 우리가 알고 있는 유일한 고향인 이 작고 희미한 점을 보존하고 사랑해야 한다는 책임감을 각인시켜주는 것이다.
