Martes began the season in Triple-A, where he struggled.
In eight starts with Fresno, Martes went 0-2 with a 5.29 ERA.
In 25 games last season for Double-A Corpus Christi, Martes posted a 9-6 record with a 3.30 ERA.
In 2015, he dominated Low-A (1.04 ERA in 52 innings, 45:13 K:BB ratio) and
High-A (2.31 ERA in 35 innings, 37:8), earning a promotion to Double-A.
Obviously the Rangers haven’t seen Martes. Cashner is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA this year vs. Houston.
Carlos Beltran is 4-for-7 against him with a homer and four RBIs.
George Springer is 4-for-10 with two doubles.
Carlos Correa is 1-for-5. Jose Altuve 3-for-9 with an RBI.
I’m sure Martes will be a good pitcher someday, but the rookie jitters will be there against a good lineup.
